ISUZU REVIEWS |
| Tokyo-based Isuzu got its start in the U.S. building compact pickup
trucks for Chevrolet, rebadged as the L.U.V. in 1972. In 1981, Isuzu
began selling vehicles under its own name, and the tough Trooper SUV
became one of the standard bearers during the SUV craze. Isuzu trucks
were known for being nigh-indestructible; after all, the company built heavy trucks as well. Before long, the lineup was expanded to include automobiles, though only the Giugiaro-designed Impulse made much of an impression. The I-Mark and Stylus faded quickly into obscurity. Isuzu dropped its car lineup in 1993 to refocus on trucks , but the lack of replacements for its current products and a weak dealer network worked against it. The company’s U.S. arm never regained the momentum of the 1980s and Isuzu left the U.S. market in 2008. |

2007 Isuzu i290 Review
|
| Isuzu | 9/7/2007 |

About the only Isuzus you see on the road these days are medium-duty cab-over trucks (usually painted white) and a few Troopers and Rodeos that refuse to die. The Japanese purveyor of tough, diminutive trucks hasn‘t left our shores, however. In fact, it‘s returned to the pickup truck business. The Isuzu i-290 is just about the pleasantest, most honest little work truck out there. |

When you‘re not sure of where to go next, it never hurts to take a step back and see where you‘ve been. Isuzu is doing just that for 2006. We‘re probably not the only enthusiasts who are happy to see that Isuzu is back. After a few years of declining sales and a shrinking porfolio, the brand‘s future has been somewhat in doubt lately. |
