LINCOLN REVIEWS |
| It’s interesting to note the same man founded luxury-car rivals
Lincoln and Cadillac. Henry Leland opened the doors of the Lincoln
Motor Company in 1917. The company built aircraft engines during WWI,
then turned to automotive production after the war. Ford purchased
Lincoln in 1922, and turned it into a prestige luxury manufacturer.
Lincoln has always played it less ostentatious, offering quality and
luxury equal to Cadillac’s but with a more subtle brand of flash. In
recent years, Lincoln has lagged behind Cadillac in terms of
innovation and prestige, but the latest products to wear the four-
pointed star, like the MKS sedan and the upcoming MKT crossover,
suggest the brand has rediscovered its mojo. |

2009 Lincoln MKS Review
|
| Lincoln | 9/21/2008 |

Surely you've noticed that Lincoln's flagship sedan doesn't seem to have kept up with the times. The Town Car has been redesigned several times over the years, but it's clear that the biggest Lincoln harkens from an era long gone past. That's fine for a rapidly decreasing number of buyers who want old-school luxury, but there's not much future in building cars for old men in this business. |

I had the pleasure of being among the first journalists to test Lincoln's brand new sedan. Starting out from the Ritz-Carlton Georgetown in Washington, DC, we were driven to a secret location for our first real look at the vehicle outside of the Internet. |

2008 Lincoln MKX Review

It was a cold, rainy late-winter day, and I was not in the mood to travel. I always enjoy the New York Auto Show, but the dismal weather and a backlog of work to be done around the house meant that my desire to make the nine-hour drive to the Big Apple was at an all-time low. Nonetheless, duty called, so I saddled up and got on the road. |

2008 Lincoln MKZ Review

Welcome to the MKZ, Lincoln‘s fresh take on entry-level luxury. But wait a minute, my Serious Car Critic voice complained. This looks an awful lot like a twin to the Ford Fusion. And wasn‘t Lincoln calling this car the ‘Zephyr‘ last year? |

Years from now, pop-culture historians will argue endlessly over which came first--the ‘Gator or the ‘Slade. The rivalry between the big luxury SUVs from Cadillac and Lincoln is fast moving into epic territory, as the manufacturers and customizers alike take these trucks to ever greater heights of affluence and style. |

2007 Lincoln MKX Review

To clear up that possible confusion, think of the 2007 MKX as the replacement for the Aviator SUV. It isn‘t a replacement, exactly (though at one point the MKX was going to be called "Aviator"); it‘s more of a lateral jump into the gray area between sedans and SUVs--that‘s right, the 2007 Lincoln MKX is what they call a crossover vehicle. It offers the best of both... |

What‘s going on down at Lincoln? The products themselves are great, but there doesn‘t seem to be much cohesive direction at Ford‘s classic luxury brand. We get the feeling that Lincoln‘s top brass aren‘t really sure what a Lincoln should be, and as a result we‘re having mixed feelings about the current lineup. Alphanumerics have replaced proper names, as the Zephyr becomes the MKZ for 200 |
